Valle di Scalve
|
|
 |
It’s
extended for 19 km and surrounded by a ring of mountains,
among whose summits the massif of Mount Presolana (2521
m), Cimon della Bagozza (2409 m) and Pizzo Camino (2492
m) stand out. Val di Scalve is Bergamo's the smallest
valley. Its little Alpine villages and wide
uncontaminated wooded areas make the valley an enchanted
place. If you run along this valley at the beginning of
summer, when the meadows fill up with colored flowers
and the little lakes reflect the light blue of the sky,
the gray of the Dolomitic rocks and the white of the
remains of the snow in the gullies, the sight is
unforgettable. |
|
Via
Mala, the narrow road linking Valle di Scalve with Val
Camonica, is particularly suggestive. From a narrow
precipitous split among the rocks, made up in 1861, you
can admire exciting views of steep rock faces,
precipices, springs of water gushing out of rocks and
falling in deep chasms.

Visit
Valle di Scalve
In
Valle di Scalve Azzone,
Colere,
Schilpario
and Vilminore
are worth visiting for their extraordinary natural and
artistic beauties.
Along the long road taking from Colere to Vilminore, in
a valley among the mountains, you see the ill-omened
Gleno Lock, which broke in 1923 causing an unprecedented
disaster. The lock can be reached on foot from the
village of Pianezza. But what represents most this
valley, that is worth paying a visit, is surely Via
Mala, the ancient road of Valle di Scalve, hollowed
out in the rocks, one of the most interesting ravines in
the Bergamask province. Leaning out from the little
protection wall in the street, you can
glimpse, between very narrow rock-faces, the
torrent that hollowed out gorges, little waterfalls and
wonderful blue-pools. In winter, downwards by the sides
of the street, you can admire several and huge ice
stalactites.
