The Lower City

The Lower city is the urban centre, the modern and restless part of Bergamo. The historical suburbs, the squares and the Sentierone, a wide avenue flanked by cafés and elegant shops, a traditional place for the city promenade, are the heart of this part of the city.
It’s recommended to visit the ancient  Chiesa di San Bartolomeo (Church of Saint Bartholomew), jewel case of a wonderful masterpiece by Lotto, the Theatre Donizetti, dedicated to the famous composer from Bergamo and the Accademia Carrara, one of the most important picture-galleries in Italy.
